Lessons
If you want to watch my lesson videos, please read this. It will make everything a lot easier to understand.
A lot of people have asked for guitar lessons, so here they are. However, you may notice that they are a bit different that other lesson videos you have seen on the internet.
You will notice is that I talk a lot. The reason is that I cannot give you the physical skills required to become a great guitarist. No guitar lesson can give you that.
As a result, my lessons aren’t terribly exciting and entertaining. But that’s not the point. I am not trying to entertain you with my lesson videos. I don’t care if you get bored, and I don’t care if you would rather watch videos of some famous and well known guitarist just shredding around.
Most guitar lessons I’ve seen are just some guitarist showing some licks, or just teaching you some of their own songs. This will not help you improve your overall playing.
The main point of instructional guitar DVDs is to sell lots of copies, not to teach you how to be a better guitarist. It costs a lot of money to hire a famous musician to record DVDs, distribute the DVDs, and advertise. So in order to sell those DVDs, they have to make the content entertaining, not educational.
Of course, I love watching guitar videos as much as anyone. They are definitely fun to watch. But just watching someone play guitar or learning someone’s songs won’t necessarily make you a better guitarist.
My lessons are and always will be 100% free. However, this means that I don’t need to entertain you. I won’t teach you individual songs or solos or mindless scale patterns. Instead, I’ll give you information on how to improve your overall craft. And of course, you can contact me with feedback and suggestions, or if you have any questions.
Disclaimer
- Many things I say are entirely subjective and are my own opinion.
- I am not a professional musician, and I have no formal musical training.
- Guitar playing is a very personal thing, but I can only teach what has worked for me. As a result, the advice I give may not work for you. It’s ok to disagree and find out what works for you, but be sure to understand why I give that advice.
- These lessons are for metal guitar playing. However, you can apply the things you learn to other genres if you want.
- I always refer to strings, notes, and chords, as if the guitar was in standard tuning, even though I tune to D standard. It just makes life easier for me.
