Careworn
Careworn was the old thrash metal band I used to play in. Although we were around since 1998, the lineup wasn’t finalized until 2000. We were solid for about 6 to 8 months or, playing shows around San Jose and the Bay Area in Northern California.
Our lineup was:
1. Matt Grant: Vocals
2. Erick Caceres: Drums
3. Dan Rappaport: Bass
4. Mike Merino: Guitar
5. Vafa Mottahedin: Guitar
These mp3s are instrumental versions of Careworn songs performed by me. There are no vocals. Additionally, I have modified the songs slightly to make them more suited as such.

Unfortunately, these versions of the songs have lost a bit of their original feel, due to the fact that I have put these mp3s together by myself. Using a drum machine just did not match the intensity and uniqueness that our original drummer had. And of course the lack of vocals makes the songs very different.
Recorded in 2008 using GarageBand and Acoustica Beatcraft for drums.
1. Misled
We opened our shows with this song. Again, it was originally a lot longer, but I cut it down because it was so repetitive. The original version of this song featured a guitar solo duel between Mike and me.
2. Darkness Of Change
This song is very old. We must have written it when we first got together. We wanted a song with a ton of solos all over the place. Because of the obvious Metallica influence, we used to refer to it as our “Kill ‘Em All medley”!
Originally, I did not play any solos on this song. Mike played all of them. So these are all solos I have written.
3. Impostor
Here’s a heavier song of ours. No solos in this one. The Fear Factory influence is extremely prominent in this one, although towards the end of the song we wanted something slow and heavy. It’s tuned to drop C.
During our live shows, Mike and I used to have a little fun with some guitar tricks. There was a part where I played my guitar with my right hand, and he played my guitar with his left hand at the same time! I’ve never seen any other band do that (yet). Update: Judas Priest did it.
4. Silent Betrayal
This was the last song we all wrote together. There are a lot of thrashy sounding riffs in this one. The melody and solo are entirely new though.
5. Open Your Eyes
This was one of our best songs. It was much longer, at around ten minutes long. However, this version still contains all the same parts as the original. The only difference is that the parts aren’t repeated as many times.

Oh thanks for finding that and letting me know. The link was not coded correctly. I’ve fixed it. It should work now. Click on the link that says “Careworn – Instrumentalized” to download. It’s a zip file. If you have any problems getting that let me know.
